Magnolia Grandiflora 0,4–0,5 m

Magnolia grandiflora is, here, more of a shrub, an evergreen plant that grows to 8m in height. The crown shape is pyramidal at first, and widens with age. Its leaves are leathery and glossy green. The flowers are white or creamy white, slightly fragrant, cup-shaped, and bloom continuously from early summer. It requires medium light, but grows best in a sunny spot sheltered from the wind. It has high water needs and requires irrigation during prolonged droughts. It requires soil rich in nutrients and is sensitive to calcareous soil, where it develops poorly and the leaves turn yellow. Since it grows slowly, its crown can be shaped by pruning, which makes it a perfect choice for smaller gardens.
